Who we are, plainly

About Dawani

This page says who we are with the same candor we ask of others: our name, our two faces, our values, and what we do not claim.

Where the name comes from

Dawani comes from the Arabic verb dana: to draw near until within reach. That is what we try to make: we take an educational, developmental, or cultural idea, and draw it near until it becomes an app in a child’s hand, a game they understand, or an experience they live with their family.

For us the name is a verb, not a slogan: we measure it by what we make, not by what we say about ourselves.

Two faces, not one

A studio that builds its own, and designs for others

The first face: we build our own products where we see an opportunity, such as Jona and Noody, both available to the public today. The second face: we design childhood and adolescence experiences for government bodies, brands, and companies, by the very same method. Each face feeds the other: what we learn in our own products raises our institutional work, and what we see in the field shapes which projects we choose next.

Working values

Five values seen in the work, not in slogans

Sobriety

Our subject is serious, so we treat it seriously: calm language, zero exaggeration. Childhood is no excuse for childishness.

Measured impact

We do not promise what we cannot measure, and we hold ourselves back when an unverified number tempts beyond its weight.

Arabic first

We author in Arabic from the root, rather than localizing someone else's template. Right-to-left is native to our work, not a late translation.

Safety before spectacle

We check safety and ethics in every idea before it reaches the child, and we delay the spectacle whenever it conflicts with the child's safety.

Partnership, not performance

We aim for what we build to transfer to the team we work with, rather than staying locked inside our relationship with them alone.

What we have made so far

Jona is a safe video platform for kids, available now, and Noody a safe social space for Arab kids, available on both app stores. Treasure Island is a real-world experience delivered in a number of Saudi cities. Drayesh, the safe virtual companion, is in development. Alongside all of this, we are preparing a screen-free early-childhood device, being prepared for manufacturing.

What we do not claim

  • User or download numbers.
  • Partner or client names without their consent to publish.
  • An address or headquarters city we have not announced.

The list is not a shortage of ambition; it is a commitment to publish nothing we cannot prove.

After you send your message

Your message is not received by an automated system; a real person from the Dawani team reads it and replies to you personally within a few working days.

And if what brings you here is joining us rather than a project, start from the working with us page.
