A Dawani service

Due diligence for children's products and companies

We examine a children's product or the startup behind it for you before your decision, on axes specific to children's products that are added to your usual financial and legal diligence, not a substitute for it. This is not investment advice and not an approved financial or legal audit; it is a description of the product, its team and the evidence behind its claims.

What you get

  • A report walking the axes specific to children's products, one by one, with a written answer rather than a spoken impression
  • Every educational or behavioural claim given its evidence type, instead of a marketing slogan with no evidence type stated
  • A list of diligence gaps, every axis without a clear answer, named as itself instead of disappearing between the lines
  • A description of the product, its team and the evidence behind its claims, with no recommendation to buy or sell

How we work

We hold to our four laws in diligence the same way we hold to them in design: a candid opinion said kindly. And we follow the same stage of our process where no word is said before it is tested against its evidence.

Test your own readiness first with the Investment Readiness Score, or read the evidence grades we use in everything we examine and write.

When you need this service

Three situations before requesting due diligence

A funding decision approaching its date

You are considering funding a children's product or the startup behind it, and want a lens specific to this sector's own risks.

An educational claim that needs a category

The product claims it teaches a child a skill or changes their behaviour, and you want to know the evidence type behind that claim before taking it on trust.

Safety debt deferred in the name of speed

You suspect the product team deferred safety reviews in the name of speed to market, and want someone to ask about that debt explicitly.

How the service runs

Four stages, a gate after each

1 Understanding the goal

We hear from you the decision this review supports, and the point by which the review needs to be ready.

Gate: This stage ends once we agree on the exact product or company under review, and its scope.

2 A written frame

We write the axes we will examine and the documents we need from the product team before any meeting.

Gate: This stage ends once you approve the scope in writing and the requested documents arrive.

3 Walking the axes with the team

We walk the diligence axes directly with the product team, one by one, and write down each axis's answer as soon as we hear it.

Gate: This stage ends once every axis has a written answer, or every unanswered axis is named as such.

4 Delivery and measurement

We deliver the diligence report and its gaps, with no recommendation to buy or sell, along with what we suggest proving before the decision.

Gate: This stage does not close until every axis in the report carries its answer, or the reason it is missing.

In scope and out of scope

What this review describes, and what it leaves to your own adviser.
AspectIn scopeOut of scope
The nature of the reviewA written description of the product, its team and the evidence behind its claims, axis by axis.An approved financial or legal audit; that stays with your own licensed adviser.
The recommendationAn ordered list of gaps, and what we suggest proving before the decision.A recommendation to buy or sell, or a valuation of the company.
Time and price commitmentA written proposal naming the deliverables for your case, once we understand the request.A price published on the site, or a delivery time before we understand the request.
The basis of the judgementA declared evidence grade for every claim, from a national figure to an internal practice not yet measured.A general impression, or trust in what the product team says about itself with no written evidence.

Questions often asked about this service

Who writes the diligence result, us or your team?

We write it, after reviewing what your team provides us, and return it as a report describing the product and the evidence, not a verdict to buy or sell.

Does this diligence work for an early-stage company with no launched product and no users?

Yes. Real child need and evidence clarity can be examined before launch, and sometimes that is the better time to examine them.

What is the difference between this review and a market-value report?

Our review describes the product, its team and the evidence behind its claims, and does not value the company or estimate its market size; anyone who needs that needs a licensed financial adviser.
